Please find below a photo of an original Hue and Cry newspaper relating to James Stephens 1866 (Fenian and a founder member of the IRB). The original document was found behind a brick in the old Dover Street Police barracks by Joe Nolan. The photo and original documents are part of the Joe Nolan archive. Check the names see if any of your family were on the run in 1866!!!

Frank Cullen Postcard of Old IRA parade for firing practice on the Upper Springfield road pre 1916 and notes by Joe Nolan

Joe Nolan son of Willie John Nolan was the first person to archive "the troubles" in 1966 with the National Museum in Dublin. He donated many hundreds of records, photos and other material. As you can see from the handwritten notes below he documented every detail on each article. Joe should have been recognised for his extensive contribution in documenting the political and social history of the North of Ireland. This is only one small part of the Joe Nolan archive story.

Early photograph with Jimmy Steele seated in the middle. North Belfast GAA possibly Kickhams?

Can anyone verify???

Kickhams GAA pre 1916 - Edward and William Gilmore in the dark jackets were at the Coalisland Muster for 1916. They were founder members of Sinn Fein and family members of Liam Mulholland (smiler) a great uncle on the O'Hanlon side of the family. From these early photographs many members became volunteers in the emerging IRA after 1916. In the hurling photos we are uploading there could be further volunteers from Belfast who attended the Coalisland Muster 1916.
